In the ancient times Fethie was known as 'The country of light'. It is a real paradise, painted in blue and green: tourmaline water and woods. Great number of night clubs, bays, beautiful yachts and other tourist facilities has made Fethie the centre of tourism. Alike other small towns of Aegean sea its narrow streets and small squares are full of shadow in hot midday, and numerous shopping galleries stretch along the streets. Fethie is situated on the shore of Mendos gulf and at the bottom of Mendos Mountain, with ancient ruins of the town Telmes on the top of it.
There are very pictoresque ruins of an ancient theatre just near the harbour. The theatre of 400 persons capacity was erected at the time of Rome Empire. There are many ancient cemeteries around the town. The most famous is the tomb of the king Amintas which is gouged in the rock and can be seen on the mountainside. It has two pillars of the conic order and three stone benches inside it. There are also ruins of ancient gates at the top of Acropolis hill. The gates are supposed to be erected by the order of the knight St.John. The Iron Knights tried to break into the town through these gates, as the legend says.
